Last week I received a post card from Vaughn in Chicken, Alaska. The town consists of "three more buidlings besides this one", he writes.

Back to business, back in Brugg

Three stories about me that shouldn't surprise anyone, at least not NZ-Anna (who has seen me loosing everything, including ski boots, ski poles, jackets, visa cards and myself).

  1. On the way to Sweden I managed to make myself infamous at the Swiss security, since I forgot my lap top case on a bagage waggon. On the way back to Switzerland I did the same mistake but on Copenhagen airport. ("Anyone who has forgotten a black bag on a bagage waggon, please contact the information...")
  2. I forgot to jump off the train in Brugg and had to jump off at the next station and go back ("Sie fahren doch nach Brugg? Das war aber hier...")
  3. My business woman image has to wait another while. On both ways, I've been the one with most hand luggage. On the way home due to one million Swiss beers that my dad had forced me to bring (but I found a man to carry them for me...)- on the way back I tried to smuggle a Kubb (i.e. a Swedish garden game) but the customs stopped me.

Conclusion: I am back in Brugg and back to business. This country has fever: it is 39 C today and just too much for a Nordic girl like me.

Vacation - day 14-17: Tour Halland part 3

On Monday afternoon I went back north to Halmstad to see Emma and her big, crazy family. We went out (what else when dealing with Emma?). I made two new friends.

On Monday morning I drove down to Helsinborg to see Ellen. We had some Youghurt icecream on the beach with Denmark as background.

Vacation - day 14-16: Tour Halland part 1

As birthday present, I wanted something typical Swedish and easy to bring with to Switzerland. Susanna gave me a concert ticket for Winnerbäck at the fortress of Varberg. Typical Swedish? Typical Susannish and Idish and a wonderful memory to bring back to Switzerland. The concert was brilliant (Christian Kjellvander played too - AND Håkan Hellström surprisingly showed up for the final song!). I hung out with my wonderful relatives in their cabin in Varberg (which IS the most beautiful city in Sweden) from Saturday until Monday morning.

Vacation - day 9: Just another manic beach day

On Sunday we (i.e. Helena, Anna, Lovisa, Michael and I) went to Lygnevi beach. Michael and I tried to make a sand monster.

Some of the people that were there (from above): Uncle Mikael, Aunt Maria, Cousin Johanna and her Jimi, Emelie and Andreas, Cousin Karin. And many, many more.

My cousin Johanna has always had a weakness for younger men. Dance partner of the night is named Karl.

Even the oldies danced. Lotta and Ingvar for instance.

Alexander started a political discussion with everyone he met. Here with Tilde and Helena.

Olsson siblings and Elin gave me a gift a la Sällskapsresan with everything I need: Knäcke bread, Dala horse, herring, caviar, Swedish calendar and chocolate. Hurray!

Here we are, mum, dad and I. Magnus, our neighbour, was toastmaster.

All in all, 70 people came. Arvid and Elin were two of the first. According to his sister Rebecka, Arvid looks like a mix between August Strindberg and Pelle Svanslös. I agree.

Aunt Carla is a cuisine mastress and organized the food.

On Saturday we had a big birthday party on Sunnanbäcken. The biggest one ever, I think. Photo above: Birthday kid!

Vacation - day 5

Today I´ve been:

  • baking
  • baking
  • and... baking

This is just a way to keep my (desperate?) house wife image up. I've actually managed to take a swim with Johanna and watch "Hotel Rwanda" AND finish a book.
